From a kid with migraines to a chiropractor

The headaches were nauseating. If I wasn’t vomiting, I was hiding in a dark room until it passed. No 8-year-old should have to live through frequent migraines. But the worst part? I was made to believe it was normal.

“Hopefully you’ll grow out of it,” a pediatrician told me.

Three sports year-round landed me in a different predicament: back pain. This time, I went to go see the back specialist — a chiropractor. As she examined my spine, our appointment took a turn. She asked a question that would change my life forever:

“Do you ever get headaches?”

I was amazed. She could tell just from feeling my neck. And after a few weeks of adjustments, my headaches were gone. It felt like a miracle at the time.

My chiropractic destiny didn’t solidify until college, though. After lapsing for a few years, I found myself back on the table for a knee injury. We addressed the issue, but once again, the benefits of regular adjustments radiated well beyond my left leg.

I remember a particular bike ride home. The sweltering Arizona sun warmed my skin. I felt grounded. Connected. Most of all, my body just felt good. This time I knew it wasn’t a miracle – it was the result of a fully functioning nervous system. I had to share this feeling with as many people as possible. I had to become a chiropractor.

I’ve seen my story play out over and over again in my practice. Health problems patients think are “normal” clear up. Their pain subsides, but then something else happens. They sleep better. They feel more active and less anxious. The list goes on.

It’s my mission to share this elevated level of health with as many people in my community as possible, especially kids. So come on in and start your own chiropractic story.
